"Are you sure because you seemed a bit perturbed?"
"Ummm thanks but I'm fine."
"Are you sad that you didn't get anything?"
(I kinda was) "Noooo."
"You know I didn't get you that bathing suit because I though it wasn't very flattering on you, right?"
(I was just about to cry at that point) "Umm thanks again, Mum."
"Are you sure you're okay?" (She was getting up to leave.)
(Nope!)"Yeah!"
I was pretty much fine up until that point but my mom saying that the bathing suit didn't look good on me, crushed me. I know I'm not exactly skinny (I'm on the chubbier side) and it's hard to find bathing suits that look good on me and all I want is to be slim! After she left, (I know it might sound like I'm a baby but I'm not) I cried for a while. It hurt! It was like the one bathing suit in the entire store that I thought looked good on me and my mom tells me "It wasn't very flattering on me!" hurt! I told my friend about this but she didn't seem upset about it at all. She told me her mom tells her that stuff a lot but that didn't comfort me at all! I bet every body has had at least one moment in their life when somebody has called them fat but it might have been a joke. But whether it was a joke or not, it can really hurt somebody! So maybe the next time you're about to call somebody fat (even if you don't mean it) think about this post!

From what you've written, it doesn't look like your mom was trying to call you fat. Saying something doesn't look flattering on someone isn't the same thing as calling someone fat. Your mom probably had a good reason for saying that. Maybe the bathing, to her, didn't seem quite appropriate.
ReplyDeleteOh the bathing suit was approppriate and my dad calls me fat all the time and my mom does that too sometimes but in a nicer way like saying it didn't look "flattering" on me!
ReplyDeleteI bet your mom thoguht it looked nice but was just afraid that you were growing up. My parents are like that too. I tried out this REALLY HOT bathing suit (bikini) and my mom and dad were there and I come out of the change rooms "I look good in this don't I?" mom: "It's nice but I don't know if u should wear it..." "Why?" Dad: "Are you sure that's the one you want?" "Positive" Dad: "U sure... I think that one over there would look better on you..." (Points to a fricken one piece piece of crap bathing suit probably under 10$. "No, I want this one..." "Ok..." my dad complained.
ReplyDeleteMy parents are still skeptical about the bathing suit but when he said "I think that one would look better on you" it doesn't mean he was saying that I was too fat for that bathing suit! He was just worried about boys and crap.
Anyway, my real point is that we're ALLLLLL beautiful. A lot of girls have issues like that. Even I do sometimes. But what you have to do is look in the mirror and say "DAYUUM GIRL! UR SMOKIN'!" ;) Good luck with the bathing suit!
